The agreement creates a practical
roadmap to advance campus innovation, digital health initiatives, applied
research, and startup incubation.
The strategic pact was formally
signed by Dr.-Ing. Towfik Jemal, President of Werabe University, and Mr. Pazion
Cherinet, Chief Executive Officer of eHealth IT Services PLC.
Designed to bridge the gap
between higher education and the tech industry, the partnership aims to equip
students and researchers with real-world digital skills, strengthen local tech
ecosystems, and help student-led startups get off the ground.
Under the agreement, Werabe
University will focus heavily on Startup Incubation and Business Growth by
expanding its Innovation and Incubation Center.
The center will offer tailored
acceleration programs, hands-on mentorship, developer hackathons, and market
access for young entrepreneurs.
In Applied Research and Health
Technology, Werabe University researchers will team up with eHealth IT Services—leveraging
Orbit Health alongside university expertise—to design health data systems,
build digital medical tools, and co-publish academic and policy insights.
To promote Skill Acquisition and
Academic Exchange, the university and eHealth IT Services will co-develop
specialized training modules, technical seminars, and internship placements.
Students will gain direct experience across eHealth platforms, including the
Orbit Innovation Hub and Orbit AI Labs.
Werabe University will provide administrative leadership, academic talent, and physical infrastructure, while eHealth IT Services PLC will contribute technical expertise, digital platforms, and industry mentorship.
Both leaders emphasized that
this multi-year initiative will serve as a catalyst for local problem-solving,
sustainable economic growth, and digital empowerment across Ethiopia.
Mrs. Tewabech Hailu, member of
the Werabe University Board, along with members of the university’s management
team, attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
